Factor Game and Scaling
8/31/2018
This was our first full week and I am very pleased with how much we accomplished in each class!
In the 6th grade, we played the factor game and spent some time working on game theory. This is an important field of mathematics and allows students to practice math skills while also analyzing important qualities of numbers. In the 7th grade, we reviewed ratios by writing comparison statements and scaling recipes. On Wednesday, we took it one step further and actually mixed juice. Did your team come up with a pretty decent juice mixture? Next week, we will all be taking our first quiz on Thursday. Enjoy your three-day weekend! MathXL and Math Munch

Each week, students will receive two homework assignments: one MathXL assignment and one Math Munch assignment. Both assignments are assigned on Monday and due on Friday. The MathXL assignment will typically be 10-15 problems long and will focus entirely on skills practice. The website will correct your work as you go so you will get instant feedback and valuable practice.
Click here to login to MathXL and begin your work. The Math Munch assignment will focus on exposing you to new and interesting math ideas. Each week, I will pick a video, game, puzzle, problem, or article that I found interesting and would like you to explore in your own time. You will report back to me on Friday after you have had time to play with the activity. Each week I will make my expectations clear on what you should produce by Friday. Please do not spend more than 20 minutes a night working on your math homework (unless of course you really are enjoying the Math Munch). Back to School

Welcome back to school! I had a great time getting to know all of you this week and I am looking forward a spectacular year. This week the sixth graders were challenged to build shapes out of a loop of rope and then prove that they had designed it with correct angle measures and side lengths. It was a challenging task and every single team amazed me with their perseverance and creativity. The seventh grade students designed hotels out of snapping cubes with the goal of designing the most profitable building. There were a lot of factors to take into consideration and they executed the task with precision and care. Next week, we will have our first homework assignments and we will dive into the textbooks. On Monday, I will be taking each class to the library to check out the book that you will be taking home. I hope you enjoy your weekend!
