12/10/2018
These will be the last MathXL and Math Munch assignments until we return from Winter break. You will not have homework next week. There will be a test or quiz in each class this week:
Click here to work on your Math XL Pick one of the three Math Munch topics and respond to the prompts as outlined below: Make-a-Flake: To get to the Make-a-Flake activity, you will have to scroll to the bottom of this article and click on the link. This is a really fun website that allows you to make endless snowflakes without the mess of cutting paper. To get points, you can either print out and turn in your favorite snowflake, or you can write 2-3 sentences describing any observations you made when you were making your snowflakes. Vi-Hart Snowflakes: Watch a video of everyone's favorite mathematician, Vi-Hart, making snowflakes. She will teach you how to make all kinds of snowflakes, even ones that do not occur in nature, and then she will analyze the rotational symmetry involved in her snowflake creations. One really cool aspect of this video is she teaches you how to cut out a star with one cut! To get points, you can either create a snowflake and turn it in, or write two questions for Vi-Hart regarding snowflakes. MathXL and Math Munch

Click here to work on MathXL This week you will have three Math Munch activities to choose from. In your notebooks (or on the math munch paper if you are in seventh grade), please respond to the prompt after each title: Traffic Video: This is a great video describing the reason for traffic. If you choose this video, please write down two questions for the mathematician who created this video. Do you think self-driving cars would remedy this or make it worse? Mobius Strip: If you choose this option, you can read the article and explore the extra links further. You can even try to make your own Mobius Strip. Write down anything you learned about Mobius Strips in 3-4 sentences. Ninja Stars: While we did our Ninja stars the day before Thanksgiving break, some of you did not have a chance to complete them. I wanted to give you the opportunity and the resources to explore further if you would like to do so. If you choose to do this, please write down how your experience went in 3-4 sentences. |
