Salute
9/29/2017
TODAY IN MATH 6, we continued working on Foxy Fives. You guys blew me away with your creativity and perseverance! I had so much fun watching you work with your teams and struggle to come up with each solution and I'm looking forward to reviewing more solutions on Monday. Next week, we will take a short quiz to review the concepts in Investigation 3 and help review for the impending unit test. The Prime Time test will likely take place toward the end of the week.
No homework, but please take a second to make sure you finished all of your MathXL this week (deadline is Monday morning). Also, take the time to check your grades and make sure you don't have any missing work. Progress reports are going out soon! TODAY IN MATH 7, we reviewed the quiz results from yesterday. Some of us are still making mistakes adding and subtracting integers, so I introduced one of my favorite math games - SALUTE. What I love about Salute is that it only requires a deck of cards and provides the opportunity for students to work on integer addition and subtraction in an entertaining and conceptual way. I encourage you to teach your parents at home. This is a great way for you to practice if you are still struggling! No homework, but please take a second to make sure you finished all of your MathXL this week (deadline was today). Also, take the time to check your grades and make sure you don't have any missing work. Progress reports are going out soon! Continuing with Investigation 3
9/26/2017
TODAY IN MATH 6, we continued to work with prime factorizations and factor trees. Your only homework is to work on MathXL
TODAY IN MATH 7, we moved on to discuss dividing rational numbers. Your only homework is to work on MathXL. Quiz Results

Today we spent most of the period reviewing the errors we made on the quiz. Please check Q to see your scores and any missing assignments you may have. Have a great weekend!
Math Reflection
9/20/2017
Today was our first partner quiz in both classes and you guys did a fantastic job discussing each problem with your team. When I first heard about partner quizzes, I was really hesitant to implement them. After all, isn't the purpose of a quiz to see what YOU know? However, after seeing the rich discussions students put into their work during partner quizzes, I was hooked. You will find that about once a unit, I will give a partner quiz. I hope you like them as much as I do!
Your only homework is to complete the Mathematical Reflection in your textbook. For Math 6, this is on page 42 (problems 1 - 3). For Math 7, this is on page 52 (1 - 3). Enjoy the mini-break tomorrow and I will see you on Friday! Investigation 2 Quiz Tomorrow
9/19/2017
TODAY IN ALL CLASSES, we got in a lot of fantastic practice in preparation for the quiz tomorrow. Please be prepared to turn in MathXL by 9am. You can also start on your Mathematical Reflection tonight if you are done with MathXL. For 6th grade, this is on page 42, problems 1-3. For 7th grade, this is on page 52, problems 1-3. I am grading these, so please put in the time to make sure your explanations make sense.
Extra Practice in MathXL
9/15/2017
TODAY IN MATH 6, we continued to problem solve with common multiples and common factors. We will be taking our quiz next Wednesday so that will be the due date for MathXL. No homework this weekend. TODAY IN MATH 7, we continued to subtract integers and we will continue this on Monday. I'm planning to give the investigation 2 quiz next Tuesday, please be prepared to turn in your MathXL assignment that morning. IF YOU WOULD LIKE EXTRA PRACTICE, you can find video tutorials and extra practice problems by clicking the "Study Plan" link in the left tool bar. Select the "All Chapters" link at the top tool bar: Select the chapter and investigation:
Cicada Cycles and Subtracting Integers
9/14/2017
TODAY IN MATH 6, we completed our problem solving on Cicada cycles and wrapped it up with a nice little strategy - the slide rule. If you missed the lesson please take the time to come see me. The slide rule should make your life a little easier when you are finding the LCM and GCF and there is a really neat reason why it works. Your only homework is still the MathXL assignment. Many of you have been working diligently on this assignment, and I believe I checked in with everyone who is still having trouble logging in or anyone who wanted a hard copy in lieu of completing the assignment online. Please check in with me if you are still having trouble.
TODAY IN MATH 7, we wrapped up adding integers and began to talk about algorithms for subtracting. Don't worry if this is still a difficult concept for you. We will continue the lesson tomorrow and hopefully everything will start coming together nicely. If you were absent, your team will get you caught up on lesson 2.2 when you return. Your only homework is to continue working on your MathXL assignment. |
